The 61st International Whaling Commission meeting will be held in Madeira, Portugal on June 22 - 26. ASOC will be represented at this meeting by esteemed biologist and whale specialist Dr. Sidney Holt. As with past IWC meetings, there is expected to be a far amount of controversy surrounding countries that continue to practice whaling, particularly Japan.

ASOC Campaigner Ji Hyun Park joins a Friends of the Earth Korea (KFEM) protest outside of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul, South Korea. KFEM's protest highlighted the 72.8% of the Korean public that opposes the Japanese whaling program. Korea supports Japan at the IWC.
